I started my new job as a Crisis Stabilization Worker this week. My job is in the social services department through a non-profit organization, and I will essentially be acting as a sort of quasi-social worker / super mentor for a caseload of around 10 kids and teens. I'm just getting started with training, receiving my work phone, getting my email and other accounts set up, shadowing, and waiting on my business cards and placements. My schedule is a bit unpredictable, as I set my schedule with my clients (besides all the scheduled meetings, court dates, etc.). I'm hoping my schedule can have some sort of structure, but I guess I will find out soon! My last blog I was talking about my experience with the fitness orientation at my new gym, and my confusion about what had been discussed with the personal trainer. Well, he is a personal trainer, but he wasn't acting as my personal trainer, not unless I were to buy sessions after my orientation. I'm sure he knows what he is doing, but I don't think he seemed very sensitive to my needs or my goals. The way that I had started eating with the 'Eat to Live' plan, I felt good, I felt healthy, and I decided that is what I want to continue. I will continue to include resistance training, and maybe focus on switching it up a little, adding in some new exercises, etc., and still keeping up with the cardio exercise. I called around, and I think I'm going to try a free pass at a different gym, one that goes on a month-to-month basis, and also has some the brand of treadmills that I really like, the ones at Anytime were very off on their readings, and I just felt I wasn't getting as much out of my workouts. I'm excited to try the new gym, and hope that's a better fit! I'm also looking into signing up for a cheap yoga class; I really miss doing yoga, and I'd love to join a class and keep up with it. Ever since my meeting that day with the personal trainer, I had been thrown off a little with the 'Eat to Live' plan, I got off track with all of the transitions going on, but I'm feeling ready to get back on board with it! One thing I was noticing, was that while following the 'Eat to Live' plan, and eating vegetables as the main part of a meal, that I'd feel really full, really quick. I'd steam half a bunch of Kale, and I could only eat about half of that at a time. The plan emphasizes eating a lighter dinner, but it was sometimes hard to follow that, as this pattern of eating had me feeling full during the day, but then hungry at night. I suppose it will just take a little getting used to, but I'd agree with that idea, that it would be beneficial to eat a little less in the evening, before bed, it's just a matter of doing it! I'm getting tired, so I'll cut this short, but I'll give an update again soon! Oh, and I found the 'Eat to Live' thing pretty interesting, here is a link...

Aw, thank you, Elizabeth! There's been a lot of transitions lately, but I'm feeling pretty good about things now, and I'm looking forward to getting going with my job!

What I admire about you is your ambition and your passion. I think you are on the right track and all will turn out fine. Perhaps the plan should be revised to healthy snacks throughout the day to prevent being full? I hear snacking throughout the day is healthy.

Thanks for charing the food/plate information. I wold love to look more into this, I'm not sure I can cut my animal intake to 10% but it is an interesting thing to research.

The book is much more informative than the website, so I'd recommend reading the book if you're interested. If you want to cut back on meat and dairy, I'd say just start off slowly, and see how you feel. Good luck!

Julie is a 24 year old graduate student earning her Master's Degree in Educational Psychology. She is always seeking to better herself, and could be described as an idealist. Julie is also a perfectionist and is, admittedly, often hard on herself when she fails to meet her goals. She wants to work on being more accepting of herself, while continuing to make progress towards her health and fitness goals. She wants being healthy to be her main focus, rather than weight loss alone. She is hoping this will help put an end to up-and-down weight patterns.
