I am typically a HUGE fan of winter - I am one of those people that hardly (if ever) wears a coat, I love the colder temperatures, and I adore going out in the snow. That is not the case so far this year. I am tired of winter and I want it to go away!
I realize this isn't going to happen, and at some point later in the season I may decide that I love winter again, but winter has not been kind to us these past few weeks. Hubby came down with a cold/bronchitis and infected most of the house - this made for two whole weeks of me being sick WHILE having to play nursemaid to a sick four year old and keeping the only non-sick member of the house, my six year old, entertained. During this time period of being sick, we also had several days where we were literally trapped at home. Due to the high winds and bitter temperatures, roads out here were shut down (snow was drifting so bad that several people had to abandon their cars and be rescued by snowmobile) and when the main roads were open, the side roads still weren't plowed. Most people can handle this, but I am not most people. Not only did I have to cancel one of my parties because the roads were closed, but I was damn near insane being stuck at home with no chance of leaving (and the fact that my daughter had a 105.2 fever wasn't helping the matter). Luckily, we all made it through/ On the upside (sort of) we did get to spend LOTS of family time together.
The weather also contributed to a lovely car accident I had this past Saturday night - I was driving along (carefully, there were witnesses AND my mom was in the car with me) and I noticed a car stuck in a snow bank up ahead. I started to slow down so we could check on them (we live in the boonies and the entire front end of the car was in the snow bank) when I hit black ice and also got stuck in the snow bank. Thankfully, others stopped within minutes to check on us and try to help - we were towed out by a plow that just happened to be passing (yay for getting towed out for free!) and the car is still able to be driven (though it is going to need some work). Mom and I were both fine (sore, but alive) and the driver in the other car was also alright, so that is all that truly mattered. Cars can be fixed or replaced, people can't be.
So, now that I have vented about all the crappy stuff, it is on to the positives! Despite being sore, I did work out both yesterday and today. I did weights both days and 40 minutes on the elliptical each day. Tomorrow is my day to rest, but my husband and I are planning on going to the Y on Saturday to work out together (which we haven't had a chance to do in months). Next week, I will be able to start fresh with no illness or injury (hopefully) and get in 3 days of weights and my 4 hours of cardio.
My business has been a major focus the past couple of weeks and it is really paying off. This past Sunday I attended training in Indianapolis AND went to my first Future Leaders workshop (which I was thrilled to be accepted into). I left very energized and am very excited about my upcoming parties! February is one of the busiest months because of Valentine's Day and I have a wonderfully full schedule. I also loved meeting so many other Pure Romance consultants and leaders and being able to bond with some of them - it makes a huge difference to have a support group in the business!
We were doing really well with the not eating out thing for most of the two weeks, but the past couple of days we really started slipping into old habits. Today, I made certain to pack snacks for the kids to have in the car and I insisted we eat what was in the house (I ate left over Popeye's chicken - not the best choice, but it was totally worth it since I only get to have it a few times a year). Dinner tonight was a citrus pork roast, white rice, and snap peas - once I gave them applesauce, the kids ate just fine. I also prepped food for the next couple of days - fried chicken thighs for the kids tomorrow (it was my first attempt at making 'safe' fried chicken for my daughter) and I made the filler for stuffed peppers (which is dinner Saturday). We will be gone all day tomorrow, but at least I have 'safe' foods prepped and ready to go so my oldest can still eat without me having to worry if I will have to use the epi-pen.
Overall, I feel I did pretty well (not great, but not terrible) on sticking to my goals for the two weeks. We definitely still have some adjusting to do around here, but I am determined to make it stick. I am looking forward to giving you nothing but positive updates next week - and I hope you are having a fantastic week!
