So it's been a week since the big race and I am not going to lie...it has been so incredibly nice to have a more relaxed schedule! The two days after the race were very busy at work and at home. On Monday, the middle school choir and band came to each of my two elementary schools to perform for the younger students and I had set up and tear down at each of the schools that I had to help with. Then that night my husband had a concert and I was on duty at home with my sons for the music program at their school. Tuesday was concert day for me and I had a lot of moving equipment to do before and after the show. If I had been able to just rest and sit most of those two days, I think my recovery would have been much worse. As it was, I was pretty sore on Monday and Tuesday, but by Wednesday, I was a TON better.
On Thursday when I was the first to make it home, I quickly changed clothes and laced up my running shoes for my first run since the race. It went really well! The first mile was great and I thought maybe I'd be able to do 3 or 4, but at 1.5, my quads and the area around my right knee started to hurt, so I decided to stop at 2. Saturday morning I made it out for the fun run at The Running Depot and ran almost 4 with a nice guy that I buddied up with.
Something that happened this week that I'm kind of excited about is I found this cool group on Facebook called Lake and Mchenry Moms Run This Town. It's a group of ladies in the area who run. It looks like they have group runs pretty often and I'm excited about getting out there and meeting some new friends! I joined the private group and was asked to introduced myself, so I did. One of the group leaders and I started tossing out days and times when we could get together for a run together since we live not too far from each other. At some point in the conversation, she asked, "Wait, are you the Amanda that won the March Madness bib?" How cool was that?? I felt like a rockstar! A similar thing happened at the fun run on Saturday when someone asked if I was "the Amanda that just ran a marathon." Wow, super cool. And then a very nice gentleman yelled out of his car as we all ran by, "Congratulations on the marathon!" I didn't understand what he said at first so I kind of just smiled and then once I had realized what he said, I turned around to yell, "Thank you!!!" and I don't think he saw or heard! So if you were the very nice gentleman, "Thank you so much for reading!"
So I have to figure out what's next. I don't want to be in limbo for too long. I know I'd like to do another half sometime, but I'm wondering if I should do the Mchenry River Run again since that was my very first race and it might be cool to try and work on speed for the next 6 weeks or so. I really like having a training schedule. That way I don't have to think about what I'm going to do, I just follow the plan. But it's been nice to just do what I can and want to do these last couple of times. I'm going to go out again tomorrow morning and try for 4 or 5. We'll see what happens.
Starting weight: 182.6
5-3-14: 167
5-11-14: 167.7
5-23-14" 168.4
So I gained a little since before the race. I'm not too worried about it. It was to be expected. I think I've done a pretty decent job trying to get back on track eating-wise this week. The first few days, I didn't go overboard, but I didn't watch it too closely, because I knew I needed to build my reserves back up. Wednesday-Friday I tried to reign it back in. So this will be my challenge now: getting used to eating less now that I'm not running 25-40 miles a week. Those last few weeks, I was able to eat a lot of what I wanted to. But now, I've got to be more diligent. I'm not stressing about it though.
Have a wonderful week, friends! Thanks so much for reading!
