I'm sorry that it's been so long since I've posted (almost 3 weeks! YIKES!) We were traveling both of the last weekends and while I had every intention of still posting while we were gone, with the homework from a class I'm taking, registration stuff for VBS which I'm in charge of and ya know, enjoying my time with my family in Florida, blogging got pushed down on the list of priorities. But never fear! I'm back and I'm raring to go!
Like I promised in my last post, I have been exercising almost every day. AND since we came back on Sunday, I've gotten back onto My Fitness Pal and have tracked my food a few days this week and I know it's helped keep me on track. Here are the stats, starting before I left for vacation:
5-30-14 166.4
6-6-14: 167.4
6-16-14: 171.4
6-20-14: 165.4
So weird that it's been .4 at the end for the last month. Anyway, you can see that I gained a pound before vacay and then gained 4 pounds while I was on vacation! YIKES!! You may think that I just took it easy while I was gone, but no, that was NOT the case! I exercised almost every day I was in Florida. I ran and walked on the beach and played hard in the ocean. Can you imagine if I HADN'T run and walked almost every day? I love food, I really do and if I ever got hurt and couldn't exercise, I would be in a world of trouble. But seriously...who could resist running along this every day?

So I've had a few conversations with people as of late about weight-loss and specifically how they would like to get started but they don't know how. I am by no means an expert. Please don't think that I think I know it all, because I DO NOT. I know what has worked for me, though and am happy to share that with anyone. I saw something in Florida that made me instantly think about these friends and losing weight and what it takes
Once we got to the south and we started seeing the palm trees, my kids were so excited...I'm not going to lie. I was excited too! I started noticing a lot of the trees had supports on them. So we all know how trees grow. They start small. They grow and get bigger. Something that we all know, but may not think about right away is that the tree gets nourished and stronger by it's roots that are planted firmly in the ground. The tree can't stand straight and strong unless it's got developed roots. I feel like running and training my body and habits by using My Fitness Pal has really helped establish these roots. But, as well all know, a big storm can come along at any time. Strong roots can help the tree stay standing in smaller storms, but sometimes, the tree gets uprooted. I've had some bumps and some times where I've gained or just stayed still for a while. Like those palm trees, we all need these supports sometimes to help us stay rooted. Establishing routines for exercise and starting some modifications in what you eat and how much you eat are examples of these supports that help you stay grounded. Support from your family and friends is also crucial. But you have to want to change. I hope that these friends and anyone else reading chooses to start establishing some roots and stand tall! You will feel amazing once you start doing things for yourself!
It's been a month since the marathon and it's time to start training again! I haven't firmed it up with the Running Depot yet, but I think my next race is going to be the Mchenry River Run! This was my first ever race 2 years ago and it seems appropriate to do it again and see how I've improved. It's only 3 weeks away, but it's only 5K so I can technically get through it fine. However, in these three weeks, I'll be adding some speedwork to my training so that I can improve my time. I hate speedwork...I think I'm definitely a distance runner as opposed to a speed runner. But, this will be good for me and what doesn't kill us makes us stronger and I'm all about getting stronger!
Have an awesome week, friends! Thanks for reading!
