Just as a refresher from my first blog a few weeks ago (I waited til Sheri published us last Friday to get started) I know, any excuse to put it off right? Anyway, my goals are:
1. Lose 20 pounds
2. Workout 3 times a week
3. Get involved in more volunteer opportunities.
All in all I feel I had a pretty good week - not perfect, but who is, right? I lost 2.1 pounds this week so I'm doing something right. I started at 172.5 and now I'm 170.4. My goal this week is to break into the 160's. I wish I could just go all day without eating. I can easily do that and have no hunger pains. In my younger dieting days, that worked. But I'm 66 years old now and the last time I tried that a few years ago I actually made myself anemic. I'm also a diabetic, so that can no longer be my plan. I know what I should eat and how much, and I'm doing my best with that every day. I know how much my daughter, Sheri, looks forward to her "free day" on Saturdays, and who can argue with that plan seeing as she's lost almost 80 pounds since last March. I'm not going to designate any day as a "free day" because maybe one week a different day in my schedule would work out better than another, so I'll play that by ear each week. I'm also remembering my Weight Watcher days and how much importance they put on drinking 64 oz. of water a day. I'm not a water drinker so that's a real challenge for me. I bought a 58 oz. jug that I fill every morning and carry around the house with me hoping to finish it by evening. Can't do that when I'm not home cause I don't have time for all the trips to the bathroom. Trust me - that certainly doesn't get better as you get older, but what does?
I was sad to accept the fact that the type of workouts I'm doing aren't really going to help me lose weight. If it does, it'll be because I'm getting my heart rate up to where it should be 3 times a week and that might effect my metabolism. I might firm and tone up a few places (unlikely at my age), but I do realize how important exercise is when you're a diabetic - so I will do this! I live in Sun City and have access to a very high techy fitness center. No excuses here!
Although my efforts this week towards getting involved in another volunteer opportunity (I'm already a Hospice volunteer), didn't work out as planned, it wasn't my fault. I went to a meeting to learn more about becoming a co-facilitator for classes called "Taking Charge of Your Health", and found out they won't be having another training class for a while. So that's on the back burner for now and I'll be looking for other opportunities.
In my original blog I was bragging about going to Houston to visit my best friend and I said I'd soak up some Texas sunshine for you. Well, I didn't make it! I fly standby and there were no seats, so.. sorry for bragging about that. Hopefully I'll make it another time soon.
Here's to one week down, and not even counting how many more to go! It's one week at atime. Thaks for "listening" and thanks for your support. I really helps.
