This will be a short post, as it was an eventful week and I'm still decompressing. Chris, acting on my advice and trying to do something good for himself, went for a bike ride just before his doctor appointment on Monday, and he crashed into a curb and landed hard on his arm. He broke his humerus bone.
The er visit was exacerbated by his high blood pressure and blood sugar... when they first took his vitals in the er, his bp was 266/135 (normal is 120/80, you're at risk for a stroke if you're above 180/100). So they kept him overnight and pumped him full of drugs to bring him down to a somewhat normal level. We're getting a referral to a nephrologist or cardiologist to try to get his hypertension and diabetes under control.
I'm so proud of him because even in the midst of all this stress, and with no rewards from the scale (he's retaining tons of fluid in his broken arm as well as his feet because he has to sleep sitting in a chair), he's stayed on track 100% with his diet. I can't wait for him to recover fully so he can reap the benefits of the hard work he's doing right now.
As for me, the only real setback was Monday night, when I finally left the hospital after twelve hours and had to leave him behind to spend the night. I don't usually stress eat, the anxiety kills my appetite, but I hit the McDonalds drivethrough on the way home from the hospital and did a little damage. Other than that, my eating has been in line as well. Bearing in mind that I actually did lose a little this week, I'm just carrying on in the holding pattern my body seems to be stuck in.
It's okay for now. I'll be patient. My body's really happy between 175-180, and I'm not going to bully it into submission when everything around me is a little unsettled right now. My focus will be on getting under 176, which is where I need to be for Weight Watchers employment, but before I have my first official "employee weigh in", I'm not even going to stress out about that.
Looking forward to cheering Amanda and Melissa and my brother Mike on at the marathon tomorrow! So ver
