So my goal was to get fully back on track with point counting this week, and I succeeded every day but one (didn't go overboard on Sunday, but I didn't count my points). Once again, breakfast and lunch were a breeze, for two reasons. 1. I'm a creature of habit and I eat the same thing every day with those meals, and 2. both meals are relatively rushed.
I eat breakfast while driving to work (just fruit and a fiber bar, pretty portable!), and shovel lunch down quickly in between answering emails and phone calls from cranky customers and dodging overwhelming new projects from my boss. Previous jobs have had their challenges when it comes to food... obviously, in the KinderCare kitchen there were plenty of temptations.
But THIS job... on one hand, it is crazy stressful and I really don't like it. There is a neverending list of tasks, something I need to be doing every second I'm there, and I run out of time before I run out of things to do. No time to leave the building for breaks, not even for a fifteen minute ice cream cone run... but that part of it is really okay. Nobody brings in treats, it's just not that kind of environment. Some time between 1:00 and 1:30 my stomach starts rumbling and I think "Oh yeah- food".
Dinner, on the other hand, is a challenge. It's usually something I cook rather than something I unwrap and throw in the microwave, and I HATE calculating points for homemade dinners. Last week I didn't do it at all. This week, I made myself calculate everything, but it was AFTER the fact (at the end of the day, trying to figure out whether I could have dessert or not), and I ended up going a point or two over my budget a couple of times.
My goal this week is to count the points for my dinners in advance, and to just say no to dessert if I haven't saved the points for it. It takes a little bit of planning, but I think it'll pay off. I'll let you know how that went next week!
