Bringing my grand total for weight lost in 2013 to.... drumroll please..... 2 pounds. Yikes.
3/1/12 247.2
Pounds lost in 2012: 68
Pounds lost in 2013: 2
1/4/2014 177.2
When you look at it that way, it's kinda shocking to see how little I actually lost last year. It would be easy to be depressed or a little embarrassed by that. But I'm not! Here's why:
1. I started 2013 (and spent 10 months of it) using the wildly erratic Wii scale, which weighed me far lighter than a real scale does, so I probably weighed more than 179.2 last January- I'd guess I actually lost more like ten pounds last year.
2. When I started blogging with SpireSpire, one of my goals was to learn how to maintain my weight. I'm an expert at losing weight, I've taking off 30+ pounds several times as an adult... but I have NEVER kept it off. I've never maintained any kind of steady weight, I've always been on an upward or downward trajectory- until this year! Little ups and little downs, some weeks of massive gain for no reason and some weeks of dramatic loss to keep things exciting- but I'm essentially where I was a year ago, and I'm proud of that.
3. My wardrobe has stayed the same throughout the entire year, and that feels good. Sure, I didn't get much giddy excitement along the lines of "This wouldn't zip up two weeks ago and now it does!", but I also didn't have that sinking feeling of having to take the fat pants out of storage. I never want to feel that again!
4. Here are some comparison shots (already posted earlier this year) to show that even when you're not losing pounds, sometimes you're losing inches and seeing a difference.
My New Year's Resolution (and I actually have a pretty good track record at sticking to those) is to find a job that doesn't suck- or to string together a couple of them. Chris's new permanent position gives us a lot more financial security, and since we no longer rely on me to bring in the benefits, I have the freedom to pursue putting together a couple of part time jobs instead of one big soul-sucking one. In thinking about it, I think I'd like to work for Weight Watchers with the goal of eventually becoming a meeting leader. What I've read about it online is that the pay stinks and that it's VERY part time, but the rewards make it well worth it, so I'm going to give it a shot!
Now for the reason I needed to lose .6 pounds this week... to apply for a position with Weight Watchers, you need to be within five pounds of what they consider to be a healthy weight for your height (which for me is 174). Now that I'm there, it's time to get started! Cross your fingers for me that this could be the beginning of something awesome.
