Before I jump into the post I need to explain the sudden change in my numbers above. For the past year I have been calculating my BMI based off a height of 5' 6", when in reality I'm 5' 6.5". I thought the calculator couldn't handle that. But today as I pulled up the calculator I decided to see if it COULD handle it. And guess what? It Can! I thought about just keeping the old numbers up, but this is more accurate, plus since I gained again this week, that half inch is the difference between crossing over into over-weight, and staying healthy. So I've updated my staring BMI, and I'll be using these numbers from here on out.
Let's start out with the numbers, because, really most of what I have to write about today ISN'T about the numbers, but as I've written before, I think we have a responsibility to each other to show what's REALLY going on. And while TODAY was awesome and I'm on a high and not really feeling the way I was PRIOR to this morning's run, I WAS feeling like that and I think you should know. So here we go.
I knew before I stepped on the scale that I had gained this week, you know it's not going to be pretty when you can FEEL that you've gained weight. Of all the places that I noticed it, it was mainly that my arms started rubbing against me a bit more this week. UGH. Again, I've come a long way (though again, not nearly as fast as I would like) in fact, this time last year I weighed 6 pounds more than I do now (which seems so LITTLE but I've been standing still and fluctuating for awhile now) and that's nothing to sneer at.
Now, I kinda knew that losing weight while training for a marathon was a fools error. There are many things that say don't even try, that you're MORE than likely to stand still or gain while training. But I foolishly thought that I could beat the odds. NOPE! It's more important to feed my body (although let's face it, I have done a bit of over feeding, and incorrect feeding) right now, so I have gained. My goal for the next 3 weeks leading up to the marathon I'm going to focus on eating HEALTHY food, setting myself up for a great race day.
Today's run was 20 miles (but Melissa.. Your post title is 27.32... What gives? - don't worry, I'll get there). I got up at 4:45, and was out the door at 5:45, got to Amanda's house just after 6:30, and after a bit of stretching we set out for our longest run to date.

Now, I don't normally stretch beforehand, but Amanda walked me through her's today. They seemed to help with some things, however, I think in my over-eagerness I OVER extended on a couple of the hip stretches (not surprising since I've always had a decent extension in dance), I should have thought about the fact that my movement for 4 hours was going to be quite limited... But I digress.
I started having hip pain within the first few miles, but VOWED to push through. After about 3 miles, we started talking about how our friend Theresa was probably in the area and we should have asked her to come out and meet us for a few miles. On a whim, Amanda sent her a text and guess what? She came out to meet us for miles 7-10!

Now, Amanda and I felt like this run was WAY stronger than the last. And we had a lot of really deep conversations today (thanks lady!). In truth our average was slower than the our 18 (partly because I HAD to walk the majority of the last 2 miles), but it's interesting, we RAN more this week, but ended up playing slower. Not really sure what the deal is. Amanda is going to play with more frequent walk breaks this week, I'm going to play with less, and we're going to devise a plan for the upcoming long run. But back to this one. 4 hours 18 minutes after we started, Amanda and I finished 20 MILES!!!!
Now any SANE person would go home and nap after such an accomplishment. I'm not sane. C2E2 (the comic con, we go there every year, but I don't normally run 20 miles before hand) is this weekend and so I went with Chris and our friend Jesse (after using Amanda's shower, and getting some McDonald's because I was SOOOOOO rungry). I gave myself complete permission to sit in the corner if I got to tired. But you know what? I didn't stop once. I walked through (and actually ran down a couple hallways) the entire convention. Because of all this I got 3 new fit-bit badges!!!
And this is why the post is named 27.32 miles, because over the course of today I ran or walked 52,538 steps, 27.31 miles, climbed 18 floors, and burned 3,772 calories! Whew.
I'll close with a few awesome photos from the show.
I met this guy and the Tom Servo he made.
